What are the deadlines for the applications?
To present your project on the meeting of the Committee for Art in the Public Space the following month, the application must be submitted until the 15th day of the month, leaving enough time so the application can be consulted with the work group and the Committee can give it a thorough study before the presentation. Example: The completed application, submitted on March 15, 2020, can be first presented on the meeting of the Committee on April 23. For more information on the application and the dates of Committee meetings, see the section “Committee for Art in the Public Space”.
Is it necessary to use my own financial resources to get the funding from the program?
No, it isn’t always necessary. The guidelines of the program “ART FOR THE CITY” include the option for 100% funding, including the competition, project preparation, from the allocated reserve. This doesn’t, however, include costs for the reconstruction of broader surroundings, not directly linked to the realization of the artwork (such as adjustments of parks, thoroughfares, non-related architectural elements, etc.). Also the co-funding of the project is possible, but the final artwork must remain the property of the city or a city institution.
Is it possible to get a financial grant for the reconstruction of an artwork?
Currently it isn’t possible to apply for funding of restoration, or repairs of existing artworks in the public space. The grants from the program are only allocated to newly realized artworks.
I’m a citizen, and I would like to present the Committee with my idea or suggestion for an artwork in the public space. What should I do?
If you want to succeed and possibly realize your idea, the first thing you should do is to study recommended documents thoroughly – find them in the section “Documents for download”. Your idea should correspond to the vision and concept of the use and development of the public space in Prague. Next, it’s necessary to contact the relevant city investor (owner and/or manager of the site), or other city investor that will organize the whole process, and also will assume the responsibilities related to the realization in the future. To consult the Committee for Art in the Public Space directly, it’s necessary to obtain the statement of the relevant city district, related to the location and theme of the intention.
Important information you might not know:
- A PERMANENT ARTWORK IS A REAL ESTATE BOUND TO ITS SITE. A real estate must have the same owner as the site it’s located on.
- The artwork supported by the Program UM must remain the property of the city (city district, institution, investor).
- Every artwork must have a manager, and regular care and maintenance must be arranged for in all cases.
- It isn’t possible to use the program “ART FOR THE CITY” for restoration or repairs of existing artworks. It’s primarily designed for the creation of new ones.
